Thailand was on alert for bird flu

BANGKOK, Thailand - Thailand alerted the Ministry of Public Health is the particular province that borders against bird flu virus this winter season. According to Permanent Secretary for Public Health Dr. Narong Sahamethapat, it followed the H5N8 outbreak in poultry farm in the Netherlands.

Officials said that could spread bird flu since Householder birds migrate from the cold to the hot climate.

"Thailand remains at risk of a re-emergence of an avian flu outbreak especially the H5N1 strain because cases have been reported in neighboring countries," said Narong. Although beginning in 2006 there were no cases of bird flu in Thailand. (CNA)
