How to Play on ePSXe in HD

How to Play on ePSXe in HD

It is year 2014 and smart phones are stronger than what they were a few years back.
He has a Samsung Galaxy S5 and She has a Galaxy Tab- we are now living in a world
heavily relying on technology. And I guess there is no excuse not to have a device
powered with at least 1Ghz processor and 512 ram. I'm pretty sure this will work on
 such devices guys. Read more.

As a 32 bit video game console released almost 20 years ago, you wouldn't like the
graphics of PS1 games played on an emulator these days considering the facts that we
have already set our eyes at today's generation of video game consoles- PS4, XBOX One,
and WII U. But is there way to somehow elevate the performance of once loved games
graphically? With emulator ePSXe, yes there is. Try to help yourself with this guide.

What You Need:

  • An Android Device
  • ePSXe version 1.8.0
  • libopenglplugin.so plugin

If you haven't updated your ePSXe recently like before the above mentioned version, do it
now as earlier versions don't support the plugin. However, if you don't have yet the app,
it will cost you.

Most users of ePSXe don't have an idea that making the games run in HD is possible since
the plugin doesn't come with the emulator. It is actually downloaded separately on the
app's website. Just google it because I may not have permission and put it on your device's
 storage.

Now launch the application (supposed other settings such audio have already been
configured) and go to Preference. Under it, find video preference and choose OpenGl
plugin which tells to be smoother. After that, find GPU plugin and locate the plugin you
have downloaded. The exact file name is libopenglplugin.so.

Load the games you have and enjoy high definition graphics. Just a reminder, a weaker
device may experience performance reduction- it may play in slow motion. In some
devices, they would just show black screen and/ or only audio would play. This usually
happens on some games that eat more processing power. In case one of these cases
happens, set ePSXe to its previous working configuration.

Here is a pair of Tekken 3 screenshots I've taken on my android device. If you compare
the two pictures, you will see that the game visuals in OpenGL is more refined, wavy lines
are reduced, thus in High Definition than when rendered by software (default video
renderer).
